ROADTRIP TO THE 40TH REUNION:
DISPATCHES FROM THE TYPEWRITERS OF
MADISON, HOLDER, WITHERSPOON AND BLAIR
LETTER #6 June 2018
Dear ’79 Classmates,
It’s Blair again and happy to share some reflections!
Congratulations
to all of you proud parents and step-parents who had graduates in the
great class of 2018! While I was not on campus for graduation, I am sure
it was a great day.
Reunions Weekend was, as always, terrific—it was wonderful to see so many classmates celebrating our 39th.
The Class of ’78 really went all out with their music-themed events,
complete with a GIANT inflatable guitar, three tigers that were the
centerpiece of many a photo, with multiple generations posing seated on
their backs, and ‘70s album covers from some of our old favs “touched
up” so that the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Boz Scaggs were wearing
Class of ’78 blazers….a nice touch.
We
had a great lunch at the venue formerly known as Dial Lodge.
Pookie, another canine ’79 family member, courtesy of Steve Wilson,
spent some time with us all in the sun and on the patio for our 39 Steps
class photo. Classmates who gave to both Annual Giving and paid class
dues this year were recognized with an award—put it on your calendar to
do both and join this group for next year.
You may have heard that it turned out to be an historic day for the P’rade….we were getting ready to follow a huge
(oops!) very large ’79 contingent off Cannon Green, when mobile phones
all around us started buzzing, beeping and blinking. Courtesy of
the new PU Events app, all of us who had downloaded it were receiving
text alerts warning of lightning touching down on campus and told to
disperse and take shelter. We waited over an hour, hoping for an
“all clear”, but the remainder of P’rade 2018 was officially
cancelled. I hope that major year classes from ’78 on down plan to
return and strut the stuff they had planned next year, so that 2019 is
the biggest P’rade ever! We are well on the way with our planning,
thanks to hard work by many volunteers.
We've
already booked two fantastic bands for the Friday and Saturday nights
of Reunions Weekend. We'll also be unveiling a fantastic new class
website in the early fall and registration for our 40th Reunion is
scheduled to commence on October 1, 2018. And a very important bit of
information: If you would like to book a room at The Nassau Inn for
Reunions you must book it on their website: www.nassauinn.com, commencing promptly at 10AM EDT on Wednesday July 11, 2018. Do not delay as rooms sell out very quickly!
And the clock officially ticks toward our 40th reunion, May 30 to June 2, 2019!
See you in Tigertown!
