Dear Fellow Classmates,
We
are Family! Happy New Year and welcome to 2019! It’s hard to believe
that it’s been nearly 40 years since we graduated from “Old Nassau” and
that our great big family 40thReunion, taking place from May 30ththrough
June 2nd, is only four months away. By the time you read this letter we
expect that we’ll be halfway to our goal of having over 400 classmates,
plus family and friends, signed up for an event-filled and memorable
weekend.
Those
of you who garden know that winter is an important season for planning
and preparing for, and then planting spring flowers. By the time late
May and early June arrive there are beautiful blossoms. The enthusiastic
classmates who make up our Reunion Committee are like gardeners,
working together to create spectacular blooms of fun and friendship that
will flower at Reunions Weekend.
We’re
very excited to tell you what will be happening during Reunions. In two
words, “so much!” As we mentioned in our previous letter, as soon as
you arrive at our tent in the center of campus at Dod Courtyard, you’ll
receive a greeting and a hug from a member of our welcoming committee.
This simple act of welcome is emblematic of our goal for this reunion.
We want everybody (and we mean everybody) to come back, and feel welcome
and appreciated as Princetonians, as friends, and as extended family.
This
Reunion is going to rock! On Friday and Saturday nights we’ll have two
of the outstanding bands that annually perform at Reunions: Liquid
Pleasure and The Right On Band, so be sure to pack your dancing shoes.
We’ll also have one of the most distinctive marching bands in the
business, the Lesbian and Gay Big Apple Corps (which led the 25thReunion
class last year), leading us in the P-rade. Our attire committee has
made sure that as we march down campus to Poe Field, and for the entire
weekend, we’ll be the most fashionably and comfortably dressed of all
the classes. The committee has spent months going through every detail,
from the quality of the fabric, buttons and lining of the dress shirts,
the boldness of our tee shirts, to the style of our new fedoras. For the
first time ever we’ll have custom designed jewelry to accompany our
attire, in the form of a limited edition class pin.
We’re
also excited to announce that our Class Dinner and our Farewell Brunch
will be held in two very special venues. On Friday evening busses will
transport us to Lake Carnegie, where we will have a “formal” dinner at
the Class of 1887 Boathouse. The view of the lake from the Boathouse is
spectacular! On Sunday morning we’ll gather for the final time of the
weekend for a delicious brunch at Procter Hall in the Graduate College.
It is truly a magnificent space and will remind you that we did indeed
attend the “Hogwarts” of American universities. We should also add that
the food and beverage committee will be insuring that we’ll be enjoying
excellent cuisine throughout the weekend. We’re also pleased that
several classmates will be providing additional wine and a larger
selection of soft drinks as well.
The
Class Memorial Service will be held in the University Chapel at 1pm on
Friday and will be led by classmate Rebecca Hart as well as others. Our
Community Service Project, which will be done in conjunction with other
classes, but will take place at our headquarters on Saturday morning,
will be a very much hands-on affair. We’ll be packing lunches for the
organization “Kids Against Hunger”!
We
encourage everyone to arrive on Thursday. We’ve planned a wine and
cheese hour, a drawing class (accompanied by adult beverages), a “19-79”
entertainment program in conjunction with the graduating class of 2019,
and we’ll still have lots of time for listening to music and catching
up with friends.
We
know that many of you enjoy Alumni Faculty Forums. You can be sure that
the Class of ’79 will be well represented on the panels. Our committee
members are actively contributing to the planning of the Alumni Faculty
Forums, which are always a highlight of Reunions weekend. We’re also
planning our own 1979 Alumni Forum for your further enjoyment.
Throughout
our planning we’ve maintained a commitment to environmental
sustainability. We will purchase carbon credits to offset a significant
portion of our carbon footprint. We’re also exploring more
environmentally responsible alternatives to the thousands of plastic
cups that are normally discarded over the weekend.
We’re
very pleased to offer all these great activities at the lowest price
possible and want to remind you that early-bird registration will be
ending very soon. If you register by January 31, 2019 you and your guest will save $150 over the regular weekend price.
Finally
- we need volunteers for a few important tasks during Reunions Weekend,
so please click on the volunteer link after you register. We’d also
like you to complete the fun Class Survey we’ve created, which will
provide interesting insights into who were are right now. We’ve also
committed to having a printed yearbook for the first time since our
25th, so after you sign up to volunteer and complete the survey, please
go to the yearbook page and complete your entry!
We hope you’ll be returning to “the best damn place of all” for our 40thReunion. It won’t be the same without you there!
With great ’79 pride and humble gratitude for the honor of serving as
Your 40th Reunion Committee Co-Chairs,
