Encouraging
participation is non-invasive, done through a very user friendly email
system. No phone call or annoying direct ask. And participation giving
can be very small. Here’s a sample of one of the 110 email I sent out
last year - it took less than an hour to do that many and we’re only asking volunteers to send emails to 10 classmates.
Here’s the email narrative I used last year:
I
am a volunteer on our Annual Giving committee as a “Participation
Leader”. I encourage you to make a donation to Princeton’s Annual Giving
Campaign – no matter the amount. We hope to show '79 Tiger Pride with
participation from over half of our classmates – a participation level
that our rival schools Yale and Harvard can only dream about.
Many
ask, “why would my $50 make a difference”. Well, would you believe that
donations under $100 add up to $1.4M each year. So, Princeton takes all
gifts seriously!
Annual Giving supports Princeton’s incredible
financial aid program that has been featured on 60 Minutes and many
national publications. A remarkable 605 of students receive aid and the
average amount is full tuition. And this aid is provided in the form of
grants – almost every Princeton student graduates debt free.
Of course, Princeton makes giving easy, a simple click gets you there!
