Dear We Are Family Classmates,
We are very pleased and proud to announce that the Great Class of 1979 proved its greatness once again by being awarded the Class of 1947 James Scott Clancy Memorial Reunion Trophy for Reunions 2019! This award is given to the class with the best planned and run major reunion and it is the most coveted of all Reunions awards.
The
Class of 1979 is the first class to receive the Clancy Award three
times! The Class received the Award in 1999 for our 20th Reunion and
again in 2004 for our fantastic 25th Reunion. There are several other
classes with “two-peats,” but we are the first with “three-peat,” giving
us singular status!
The Clancy Award was announced by our Honorary Classmate and friend, Mibs Southerland. Here is an excerpt of what she wrote:
It
was an easy decision for the members of the On-Campus Committee and
Alumni Council Committee on Reunions as they were so impressed with your
reunion from the early planning stages and throughout the Reunions
weekend. Congrats to Lonny and Prentis for taking the lead, and to all
your devoted committee members who came together to pull off one
fabulous 40th reunion.
Your
inclusive theme (including artwork, costumes, music, service project,
and more) was a hit with your classmates and Reunions attendees of all
ages, and still holds true. As Phil recently shared to the class — “It
seems apropos that we chose "We Are Family" as our theme for our 40th
Reunion last year and for all Reunions going forward. With Covid-19
affecting us all, take comfort that the '79 Family is here for you in
every way. We Are Family, indeed.”
In
addition, your student crew was organized and dedicated to making sure
things went smoothly. In fact, our colleagues had nothing but positive
things to say about the 40th crew! Your reunion was a great example to
future reunion classes -- three cheers to all of you for leading this
effort. It was a job well done!
The Clancy Award will be officially presented to our class at a virtual Alumni Council Meeting on Friday, May 29, 2020 at noon. You will receive an invitation in the coming weeks to attend the virtual program.
Of
course, what made the Reunion so special was YOU – the record-setting
400+ ‘79ers who attended! Record-setting! Award-winning! The 40th! YES –
“We Are Family!”
