February 2022 Dear We Are Family ’79 Classmates, I
am very pleased to announce that Bruce Lincoln has joined the ’79
officer team as Chair of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). This new
position has an open-ended agenda and responsibility. As DEI chair,
Bruce will take a leadership role in (1) working to include more
classmates in rewarding class activities, (2) promoting engagement with
the Princeton community’s DEI improvement, and (3) Improving outreach to
our diverse class around the world. Our vision as officers is that
everyone in the class – and we mean absolutely everyone – feels welcome
and appreciated as part of our ’79 Family. We
think Bruce is an excellent choice to kick off this new role. When
Bruce volunteered to serve in this important and new position, he wrote: “If one were to characterize my work under one banner, that would be “Equity and Inclusion”,
especially as it has to do with underserved children. From my work as
an educator, to my work as an educational technologist, to my work as a
technopreneur, the driving motivation has been my desire to ensure that
historically underserved groups of people are given opportunities
through education, echnology, new business development and now through
the sport that I have been involved with for more than 50 years,
lacrosse. As
I am so proud to share with everyone who asks, my value for giving back
comes from my mother instilling in me the importance of creating
opportunities for those who have not had the same opportunities as
myself. I am fortunate in that I have been able to make a living and
make a difference at what is at the core of the Princeton value system.
With my work as the Executive Director of Harlem Lacrosse, I am now
focusing on how to use lacrosse as a means to change life trajectories
for young people from Harlem by involving them in the sport of lacrosse. In
many ways I have come full circle and consonant with this driver in my
personal/professional life is to welcome the opportunity to serve as the
first DEI officer for the Class of ‘79.” Well said Bruce and welcome!
